Manipur: A non-local who changed his surname to ‘Luwangthem’ was confined by MSF | Being Manipuri
A non-local who changed his surname to ‘Luwangthem’ was confined by the Manipur Students Federation (MSF) on Monday. The federation has asked the Sana Konung authority to clarify whether they have given any permission to a non-local to change their surname to a local surname.
Speaking to media persons at MSF’s head office at Imphal, the federation’s vice-president, Ningthoujam Jugeshwore said the non-local identified as Gyanindro Das, 65, from Silchar has two wives and six kids. He stated that both the wives are indigenous people of the state.
“He is also responsible for bringing many non-locals in the state using his cruiser vehicle”, he added. He said it is very unfortunate that a non-local was permitted by government officials to change his surname to an indigenous surname of the state.
“Such an act shows that many officials and indigenous people are welcoming non-locals in the state which is against the strong movement of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System”, added the vice-president.
MSF has appealed to the people of the state not to support any non-locals in the state and warned that federation will not remain silent if they find anyone helping non-locals in changing their surname.
